February – Nepal: Children’s Lifeline / The Brooklyn Hospital Center
The Pediatric ICU staff building mission in Kathmandu at the Kathmandu Medical College was led, once again, by Dr. Patrick Leblanc and Dr. Loiusdon Pierre. The mission had several purposes. A course in Fundamentals of Pediatric Critical Care Support was taught to twenty-three candidates who also received a post test. Clinical rounds were performed in the neonatal unit where an average of eighteen babies are treated daily. A visit to the new Tribhuvan Hospital took place. Dr. Leblanc and Dr. Pierre had previously provided consultation for the development of the hospital. A Pediatric Clinical Care Symposium was also conducted and was attended by forty pediatricians and specialists. In all, thirty-two children were treated and twenty-three physicians were trained.
