October – Ghana: Children’s Lifeline / Children’s Hospital Boston / Harvard University
In October, native Ghanhian, Dr. Francis Fynn-Thompson a pediatric cardiologist at Children’s Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School led a team there and operated on 14 patients. Each mission to Ghana has encountered many challenges, including electrical shortages, lack of sanitation and a shortage of supplies including oxygen. Since hypertension is one of the leading causes of death in this area and there is a severe shortage of heart surgeons, this is a much needed area of service.
